Max Shulga and No. 8-seed VCU will take the court against Selton Miguel and No. 5-seed South Florida tonight.
The No. 8 seed in one of the four quadrants of the NIT bracket, VCU, will take on the No. 5 seed in the same quadrant, South Florida, at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, in the second round of the NIT tonight. The Rams entered this tournament with 13 losses this season, their final being in the championship of the Atlantic 10 Championship which blocked their path to the NCAA Tournament. Entering the NIT as the worst seed in the quadrant, they had an uphill battle from round one. They took down the quadrant’s top seed in Villanova from the Big East 70-61. Joe Bamisile finished the game with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead the team to the win in 27 minutes off the bench. Max Shulga finished with 10 points, three rebounds, and six assists as the only starter in double figures. Toibu Lawal also came off the bench and provided 22 solid minutes with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Bulls finished their conference tournament with a loss to UAB in the semifinal of the American Athletic Conference. Heading into this tournament, they took on the No. 4 seed in the quadrant UCF and took them down 83-77 on the road holding a lead by 15 points at one point.
Selton Miguel came off the bench and played 32 minutes leading the team in scoring with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Kasean Pryor had 17 points and eight rebounds shooting 50% from behind the arc while Jose Placer had 14 points shooting 3-for-4 from three.
