Eduardo Aparecido saved the best for last in Thursday night’s first round of eliminations at the PBR World Finals at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Aboard Down Payment as the last of the 45 riders of the night, Aparecido posted a score of 87.75 to jump ahead of season points leader Cassio Dias. With the win on Thursday, Aparecido jumped ahead of John Crimber into second place in the Unleash the Beast world standings, still 552.33 points behind Dias. The top 15 riders in the standings at the end of the four elimination rounds advance to next week’s championship rounds as well as the top five riders in aggregate scoring in the eliminators that were not already qualified.

Dias earlier matched the 86.75 score of Kaiden Loud aboard Black Betty with his ride on Sava. Dawson Branton scored an 84.25 aboard Zeus while Leonardo Ferreria posted an 84.00 on the back of Double 00 Buck. Alan de Souza’s 82.75 on Rip and Vitor Losnake’s 42.50 aboard PIF were the only other riders to complete rides on Thursday.
Branton’s successful ride could prove huge, as he entered the event by invitation after coming in to the World Finals at 48th in the standings. Loud, meanwhile, bumped Cody Jesus out of the 15th spot in the standings with his performance on Thursday.
