Miami (3-0) leaves home for the first time this season, heading to the Charleston Classic on Thursday to square-off with Drake (3-0) at TD Arena. The Bulldogs are also leaving their home turf for the first time. The Hurricanes came off a run to the Final Four in 2023 with a 15-17 thud last season. Coach Jim Larrañaga is in his 14th season in Coral Gables with a 273-166 record and six NCAA tournament bids. Drake has played in the last two NCAA tournaments, with coach Darian DeVries leaving for West Virginia last spring. Ben McCollum left Northwest Missouri State, where he won three Division II titles in 15 years, to take over the Bulldogs.

Daniel Abreu’s three-pointer with 23 seconds left stood up as Drake clipped visiting Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night. Bennett Stirtz powered the attack with 25 points while Abreu added 17. Stirtz averages 18.7 points and 5.0 assists, with Abreu knocking down 17.7 points per game and Cam Manyawu putting up 9.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.
Thursday’s Charleston Classic opener marks just the second meeting between the programs, with the Hurricanes eliminating the Bulldogs with a 63-56 win in the first round of the 2023 NCAA tournament.
