    Hawaii and Nebraska will look to earn a spot in the championship game of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic with a win on Monday evening in college basketball.

    The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Monday night in college basketball in the second semifinal of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors bring an overall record of 7-3 into Monday’s game and a Big West record of 0-1 so far. The team opened tournament play on Sunday night by beating Charlotte 78-61 to earn a spot in the semifinal round. Gytis NemeikÅ¡a scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Rainbow Warriors offensively and Marcus Greene chipped in 22 points. Tanner Christensen led Hawaii on the boards with eight rebounds and added five points to the scoreboard. The team shot well from the field at 54 percent, but could use some work from long range after going 5-for-15 from the three-point line.

    On Sunday night, the Cornhuskers played Murray State to a 66-49 win to move on to the semifinal round of tournament play, improving their overall record to 8-2. The win was the team’s second in a row, as it beat Indiana last weekend to move to 1-1 in Big Ten play. Against the Racers, Connor Essegian scored 15 points to lead the team offensively, while Andrew Morgan and Rollie Worster also finished in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Morgan pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the team on the boards and earn a double-double in the win. The team went 8-for-9 from the free throw line and shot 49 percent from the field.

    Hawaii and Nebraska have played a total of five times with the last meeting having taken place in 2014 at this same tournament. The Rainbow Warriors are 5-0 against the Cornhuskers and will look to stay undefeated in the series with a win on Monday night to move on to the championship game on Christmas Day.
