Illinois and Northwestern will meet on Tuesday in the second game of their two-game series.
On Tuesday afternoon, Illinois will host Northwestern in the second game of the in-state Big Ten rivalry series at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. The Fighting Illini come into Tuesday’s contest with an overall record of 16-24 and a conference record of 3-9 which puts them in 13th place in the Big Ten standings. Over the weekend, the team played Purdue and although it lost the series with losses in the first and second games, Illinois picked up a 4-1 win in the finale to avoid a sweep. Tori McQueen improved to 9-11 in the circle after pitching a complete game and striking out five batters. Gabrielle Debevec and Sydney Malott were responsible for bringing the team’s runs in with an RBI single and a three-run double, respectively.

The Wildcats are currently leading the Big Ten standings and are on a seven-game win streak with the most recent being a 2-1 win over Maryland to complete the sweep and bring their overall record to 26-8 and their conference record to 12-1. Against the Terps, Hannah Cady brought in the only two runs for Northwestern with a double to center field in the first inning. Strong pitching and fielding allowed the Wildcats to keep the Terps at bay and earn the win. Ashley Milley is now 13-4 on the season in the circle as she struck out six batters and only gave up four hits after pitching a complete game.
The last time Northwestern and Illinois met resulted in an 8-0 run-rule victory for Northwestern on April 9th.
