Peters Township dethroned Pine-Richland in last year’s WPIAL Class 5A championship with a rematch set for Saturday.
Last year, Peters Township (11-1) knocked off defending champion Pine-Richmond (10-1) to win its first-ever WPIAL title and on Saturday night the Indians and Rams square off again with the title on the line, this year playing at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh after last year’s championship game was held at Norwin High School. Peters Township has run off six straight wins while Pine-Richland has claimed its last three. The Indians boast top junior linebacker Reston Lehman, ranked 168th on the ESPN Junior 300 and still uncommitted, as well as senior outside linebacker Mickey Vacarello, rated No. 22 in the state in the Class of 2025 and committed to Stanford.

Peters Township slugged out a 7-3 win on Nov. 15 against Upper St. Clair to reach the title game. Quarterback Peter DiLucia was held to 65 yards passing but has 2,349 yards and 22 touchdowns this year.
The Rams had an easier time of it on Nov. 15, cruising past Bethel Park 28-7 to advance to its third straight championship tilt. Mac Miller was the workhorse, running for 208 yards on 36 carries with two touchdowns while quarterback Aaron Strader returned from a broken collarbone to throw for 80 yards and a score.
Strader has thrown for 1,409 yards and 16 touchdowns with two interceptions and also has four touchdowns and 308 yards on the ground. Miller piled up 1,221 yards and 15 scores on the ground for Pine-Richland.
