This season Paige Bueckers and second-ranked UConn (8-0) are playing like a team laser-focused on a 12th national championship. The Huskies have been utterly dominant winning by an average of 30.9 points per game led by the sixth-best defense in the country. That will all be tested by 10th-ranked Notre Dame (7-2) who much like the Huskies are thriving despite being short-handed. The Fighting Irish only have eight players active so far this season led by the dynamic starting five of Hannah Hidalgo, Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron, Liatu King and freshman Kate Koval. At this point in the season, both Bueckers and Hidalgo are putting together Player of the Year resumes creating a fascinating matchup.

Last season when these teams met in the regular season the Fighting Irish came away with an impressive 82-67 win. Hidalgo led the way with 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the win while Bueckers finished with 17 points on 5-17 shooting. Hidalgo has built on her remarkable freshman season with a great start to her sophomore campaign. She is averaging 24.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and a country-best 4.6 steals per game as the only player in the country scoring 20 plus points with four or more steals.
For Bueckers this season she is playing her best basketball since winning National Player of the Year as a freshman. She is averaging 18.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game on 56-42-79 shooting splits.
