The Toronto Blue Jays will take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night in MLB action.
The 2024 MLB season is officially underway and on Friday night, the Tampa Bay Rays will host the Toronto Blue Jays for the second game of their four-game series at Tropicana Field. The Rays are in search of their first win of the season on Friday after dropping their home opener on Thursday in an 8-2 loss. Tampa Bay finished the game with eight hits but struggled to get runners home. Yandy DÃaz led the team offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. DÃaz hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to give the Rays the lead, but Toronto scored six more runs before DÃaz struck again in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double. Zach Eflin took the loss on the mound for Tampa Bay with 5.2 innings of work in which he gave up six earned runs and struck out five batters.

The Blue Jays finished the game with seven hits collectively, but some heavy hitters allowed the team to pull off the win in the season opener. George Springer hit his first homer of the season in the fourth to tie the game up. In the top of the sixth, Cavan Biggio made it 2-1 with his own solo shot followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s first home run of the season to make it 3-1. Alejandro Kirk extended the lead to 5-1 with a two-run single, also in the sixth, before Kevin Kiermeier made it 6-1 with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, Bo Bichette brought in the final two runs with his RBI double to secure the victory. José BerrÃos earned his first win of the season, pitching for six innings and striking out six batters while only giving up two earned runs.
In tonight’s game, Chris Bassitt will get the start for Toronto and Tampa Bay will look to Aaron Civale.
