Predators open five-game road trip in a divisional matchup against the streaky Avalanche

For the second time in nine days the Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche face off in a Monday night matchup as the Central Division foes will meet inside Ball Arena in Denver as the Predators aim for their fourth win in five games in this series. Colorado has been wildly inconsistent so far this season having already posted a five-game winning streak sandwiched between a four-game and a three-game skid but have won two of their last three games with both wins coming on home ice. Nashville had just four win in their first 14 games but after a 4-0 shutout win over Utah on Saturday the Predators are poised to turn their fortunes around.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon is one of three Avalanche skaters with 20 or more points this season with his league leading 29 points and 22 assists. The number one overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, MacKinnon has a point in 14 of 15 games this season and is well on pace for his third consecutive 100-point season. MacKinnon tallied career highs in points, assists and goals last year while playing in all 82 games.

This will be a game of strength versus strength when the Avs power play faces the Preds penalty kill. Colorado ranks second in the NHL on the power play scoring on 34.6% of chances with the man advantage having scored at least one power play goal in 12 of 15 games this season while Nashville is second in the league stopping 90.6% of chances against the man advantage allowing just five power play goals in 15 games.

Predators all-time leading scorer Filip Forsberg leads the team with eight goals this season after a pair in Saturday night’s home win over Utah ad comes into tonight five goals away from 300 for his career. Forsberg has scored 19 goals and tallied 19 assists in 36 career games against Colorado.

The home team has won each of the last four games in this series with Colorado winning each of the last five in Denver with four of those coming by two goals or more.
