The Seattle Mariners host the Oakland Athletics on Friday for the first series of the season between these two AL West rivals. The Mariners are trying to avoid dropping three in a row after losing three of four against the Minnesota Twins in their last series. Seattle is coming off a lopsided 11-1 loss against Minnesota on Thursday to lose the series. Logan Gilbert had a rough outing giving up five runs in the first inning alone and eight overall in just four innings to take the loss. The series dropped Seattle back into second in the AL West and 1.5 games back of the division-leading Texas Rangers. Seattle is favored in the opener at -145 and will start Bryan Woo who is making his season debut on Friday after returning from the IL with elbow inflammation.

They split a double header on Wednesday winning the opener 9-4 and the second game Oakland dropped by a 12-11 final. It must be noted that Oakland catcher Shea Langeliers drove in eight runs on the day across the two games against his hometown team. Oakland will start Paul Blackburn in the opener who is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
