And only a win will be enough to guarantee Unai Emery’s side retain top-four status as fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur approaches from the rear sat three points behind—and with a game in hand. Wolves, meanwhile, is up to ninth in the English top flight but has a chance to move within reach of European qualification if they can stitch together some winning form in the coming weeks.

And Gary O’Neil’s side will have the room to focus on that league form after bowing out of the FA Cup quarter-finals following a shock home defeat to Coventry City just prior to the international break.

That defeat means silverware is no longer on the cards for Wolves this season, though three points at Villa Park and a potential move up to seventh place may feel like a trophy.
The same could be said for Emery’s men if they manage to bag Champions League qualification for next term, but a huge run of nine fixtures stands between them and a return to Europe’s top table.
Wolves held on for a 1-1 draw when these teams met at Molineux back in October, the sixth straight encounter with Villa in which they’ve managed to avoid defeat.
Three of those have gone in favor of Saturday’s guest, though Wolves’ last win at Villa Park came back in October 2021 when Villa conceded three times in 15 minutes and lost 3-2 in front of its own fans.
Emery has taken the club to new heights in the years since then, but Villa is in a battle to regain its confidence after failing to win either of its last two league outings.
