A Top 25 matchup will take place Wednesday night as No. 23 USC hosts No. 1 Pitt in women’s college volleyball.
The newly appointed No. 1 team in the nation will head west on Wednesday as the Pitt Panthers take on the No. 23 USC Trojans in a non-conference match at the Galen Center. The Trojans bring an overall record of 3-1 into Wednesday’s contest after beating Pepperdine twice, losing to No. 11 Creighton in four sets and beating Kansas State 3-1 their last time out. Against the Wildcats, Southern California earned a 25-21 win in the first set before dropping the second 25-16. With some regrouping, the team was able to earn a 27-25 victory in the third and a 25-22 win in the fourth to earn the win. The offensive efforts were led by London Wijay and Ally Batenhorst, who finished the match with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. On the defensive end, it was a collaborative effort between Gala Trubint (17), Mia Tuaniga (16) and Batenhorst as they combined for a total of 48 digs in the win.

The Panthers are off to a strong start this season and will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive on Wednesday night. The team opened the season with a big sweep over No. 10 Oregon before going on to sweep both Long Beach State and Buffalo for a perfect 3-0 record. In front of a home crowd of 2,000 last week, the Panthers dominated the Bulls. The team held Buffalo to a total of 38 points over the course of three sets due in large part to strong team defense. Emmy Klika recorded a team-high five digs, but the rest of the team was close behind with only four members of the roster not recording a single dig. Valeria Vazquez Gomez, Blaire Bayless and Torrey Stafford each finished the game with seven kills to carry the offense.
Pitt will need to mentally prepare for Wednesday night’s game since the last two times out did not challenge the team much. USC will be looking for its first Top 25 win of the season. Tune in to see which team can come out on top.
