Wichita State and Western Kentucky will meet on Monday night as the teams kick off the 2024-2025 basketball season.
On Monday night, Western Kentucky will host Wichita State at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky as the teams begin the new season. The Shockers finished last year in 12th place in the American Athletic Conference with an overall record of 15-19 and a conference record of 5-13. The team played in the conference tournament and made it to the quarterfinals where it fell to UAB in a 72-60 loss. Last weekend, the team played in an exhibition game against Emporia State, winning handily in a 99-53 victory. Corey Washington finished the game with a team-leading 15 points in the win and four other Shockers joined him in double figures. Quincy Ballard and Joy Ighovodja each pulled down eight rebounds to lead on the boards. The team will look to those three to continue leading the team this season.

Last season, Western Kentucky finished the season in third place in the Conference USA standings. The team ended the season with an overall record of 22-12 and a conference record of 8-8. The Hilltoppers started off this season with an exhibition game against UAB, losing 88-79 at home last weekend. Babacar Faye scored 20 points to lead the offense while Don Mchenry finished closely behind with 16 points. Faye also led the team on the boards with eight rebounds to narrowly miss out on a double-double, a mark he will look to earn on Monday night in the official season-opener.
Wichita State and Western Kentucky have met six times in their program histories with the most recent meeting being last season. The Shockers earned a 71-61 victory at home, marking the third straight win for Wichita State.
