JaKobe Coles and Grand Canyon will take the court against BJ Freeman and Arizona State on Thursday.
Grand Canyon will travel to Arizona on Thursday night in the second week of men’s college basketball. There, the team will face-off against Arizona State on its home court at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, a part of the Hall of Fame Series. The Sun Devils head into this week with a 2-1 record after facing three teams in the first week of college basketball. They took down Idaho State at the Footprint Center before welcoming in and beating Santa Clara on the same court. They went on the road for the first time on Sunday and lost by just eight points to No. 4 ranked Gonzaga.
BJ Freeman leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in his first season with Arizona State after transferring in from Milwaukee. Alston Mason is the only other player on the team averaging double figures with 13.0 points and 2.3 assists per game as a senior transfer from Montana State.
The Lopes are undefeated, heading into their first road game of the season. They took on Fullerton at the Global Credit Union Arean on the opening night of college basketball and won by 10 points, led by the fifth-year senior JaKobe Coles, dropping 26 points and 13 rebounds after transferring in from TCU.
Later that weekend, they took on Western Kentucky at home, part of the WAC/CUSA Challenge, and won by just two points. Collin Moore led the team with 23 points and 10 rebounds, starting his second year at Grand Canyon. Coles also had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
