The United States battles France on Thursday in the IIHF World Championships. The Americans are looking to get back in the win column after being upset by Slovakia in their last game. They were able to take the game to overtime, but they gave up the winning goal three minutes into the extra frame. It was the second loss of the tournament for the Americans as they fell to Sweden in their first game 5-2. They did get a win against Germany in their second game, but have struggled overall in their first three games. Thursday they will look to get back on track agains a France team that is coming off its first win.

The French team lost their first two games to Kazakhstan and Latvia, but finally got in the win column on Tuesday when they beat Poland 4-2.
The loss to Latvia was a tough one as they lead 1-0 heading into the third period, but gave up two goals to go down one. They would tie the game late, but lost in overtime when Kaspars Daugavins scored 4:59 into overtime.
They have been competitive in their first three games, but they are going to have to play much better if they want to upset the Americans on Thursday.
