Arkansas high school football pits the Watson Chapel Wildcats and the Maumelle Hornets on the field.
This week Maumelle (3-2) heads home to try and build on its last win and rise in the Arkansas high school football rankings. The Hornets have traded wins and losses since the season opener. They have yet to win or lose more than one game in a row, but have the opportunity against a struggling Watson Chapel (1-3) team this week. Heading into this game the Wildcats have lost two straight games where they have been outscored 104-14. This is a big opportunity for the Hornets to start their first winning streak of the season and rise up in the Arkansas high school football rankings. Currently the Hornets are ranked 35th in the state and fifth in the 5A Central conference.

Last season the Hornets routed the Wildcats 56-14 on the road as part of a four game winning streak heading into the playoffs. The 56 points and the 42 point margin of victory were both season highs for the Hornets last year.
This season the Hornets are averaging 29.6 points per game in wins, while scoring six total points in their two losses. On the defensive end they are allowing just 13.0 points per game in wins, but 36.5 points per game to their opponents in losses. That inconsistency has led to the Hornets trading wins and losses through five games this season.
For the Wildcats, they have allowed 42 points or more in all three of their losses while scoring 32 total points on the offensive end. In their only win of the season they were able to control the game with defense in a 19-7 win over Crossett.
