North Crowley (15-0) dethroned two-time defending state champion Duncanville in its semifinal game and will take on Austin Westlake (14-1) for the Texas 6A Division 1 championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday night. The Panthers, located in Fort Worth, won their only other title-game appearance in 4A-1 in 2003. The Chaparrals, by contrast, are in a championship game for the 12th time and the first since winning three straight titles from 2019-21 across 6A-1 and 6A-2. They also took home the 5A-2 title in 1996.

Chris Jimerson Jr. threw four touchdown passes, including a 49-yard score to Quentin Gibson early in the fourth quarter, as North Crowley held off Duncanville 36-34 at Eagle Stadium in Allen on Dec. 14. Jimerson has thrown 54 touchdown passes this season while Gibson has 86 catches for 1,828 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’s headed to Colorado next year.
Westlake needed no drama to advance, beating Houston North Shore 35-10 at Legacy Stadium in Katy on Dec. 14 in its semifinal matchup. Quarterback Rees Wise has 13 rushing touchdowns while throwing for 2,444 yards and 23 scores for the Chaparrals. Grady Bartlett has 12 scores and a team-high 767 rushing yards. Brody Wilhelm tops the receiving corp with 39 catches for 600 yards and nine TDs.
The Panthers moved up from No. 8 to No. 3 in the USA Today Super 25 with its win over Duncanville, which had been at No. 2. Westlake comes in at No. 11 after being unranked the week before.
