The game of the day in New Mexico high school football features top ranked La Cueva (3-0) taking on 12th ranked Farmington (3-1). These teams have been gridiron rivals for years, but the rivalry has become one-sided in recent years. Over the last four games between the teams the Bears have won four straight with a massive scoring differential. In those four wins the Bears have outscored the Scorpions 211-59 overall. The last time the teams met, last season, the Bears ran away with a 45-6 lopsided victory as part of a 10 game winning streak that ended the Scorpions season and continued the Bears run in the state playoffs.

Last season the teams played twice towards the end of the season with the Bears winning 63-28 in a district game followed two weeks later by the 45-6 win in the playoffs. The Bears have picked up where they left off last season with 10 straight wins, followed by three straight to start this season, putting their 13 game winning streak on the line against a motivated rival.

Through the first three games of the season the Bears are averaging 34.0 points per game on the offensive end. The Bears were challenged in a 39-32 win in overtime over Pinnacle, another team ranked in the teens when they took the field. In their other two games they won by at least three scores and held both opponents to a combined 19 points.

For the Scorpions, they have played against some higher ranked teams and played well to start the season. They are also averaging 34.0 points per game, scoring at least 21 points in every game, which will put pressure on the Bears and give the Scorpions another chance to snap their losing streak against the top ranked team in the state.
