Mountain Pointe looks to secure a third straight state playoff berth in high school football when it hosts Desert Vista on Thursday in the regular season finale for both teams.
Mountain Pointe (5-4) brings a two-game losing streak into its regular season finale at Mountain Pointe High School Field in Phoenix on Thursday night when the Pride host Desert Vista (1-8), losers of six in a row. Mountain Pointe is 1-2 in the Arizona Region 6A Central standings, while the Thunder are 0-3 in regional play. The Pride are playing for a shot at a third consecutive berth in the Arizona 6A state playoffs, where they lost in Round 1 last year. Desert Vista, also located in Phoenix, will miss the playoffs for a third straight year.

Mountain Pointe fell into a 21-7 hole in the first half and never recovered in a 31-24 loss to Brophy College Prep on Friday. Senior quarterback Butter Tollefson was 8-of-20 for 136 yards with a touchdown and an interception and also ran for a score, finishing with 56 yards on 13 carries. Chase Shumate had the touchdown reception for the Pride.
Desert Vista got five touchdown passes from Seth Hansen, but it wasn’t enough in a 42-39 loss at Corona del Sol on Friday. Hansen was 33-of-53 for 439 yards, with Aeneas Redmond catching 14 passes for 162 yards and two scores, while Isaac Price made 11 grabs for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper Walsh also caught a touchdown pass and Kevin Jackson, who ran for 82 yards on 18 carries, found the end zone on the ground.
Washington commit Rylon Dillard-Allen, who had 14 tackles last week, is the No. 3 recruit in Arizona, while Pride defensive tackle Kaleb Jones, an Arizona commit, is No. 14 in the state. Mountain Pointe beat the Thunder 21-16 last season and Desert Vista’s last win in the series came in 2021.
