The high school basketball season tips off for Wheeling Central against undefeated Monroe Central (3-0) in a cross-state rivalry game. The Maroon Knights represent Ohio against the Seminoles from West Virginia. This season has started off strong for the Seminoles winning their first three games, getting better with each win. These teams have not faced off since the 2021-2022 season with the Maroon Knights winning. That game was a close, hard fought one between the teams with the Maroon Knights winning by just eight points in the end. Over the last two seasons they have not faced off in the regular season or playoffs as they reignite their rivalry.

Through the first three games of the regular season the Seminoles have gotten better with each game. They were tested in the season-opener against Martins Ferry, but came away with the 82-75 win.

For the Maroon Knights they are coming off a 20-6 season that ended in the Class AA State Basketball Championship semifinals. They finished the season averaging 67.6 points per game while allowing just 52.1 points per game to opponents. The Maroon Knights start their journey to the playoffs again this season here against the Seminoles.
