    New Mexico takes on San Jose State on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Tournament.

    The New Mexico Lobos battle the San Jose State Spartans in the first quarterfinal of the Mountain West tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Lobos won the regular season conference title as they went 17-3 in the Mountain West. They did slip up in back-to-back games in February against Boise State and San Diegos State, but they have bounced back with three straight wins. Their other confernce loss came at the hands of the Spartans back on Jan. 14. The Lobos would reel off eight striaght wins after that loss before getting beat by the Broncos. The Lobos did beat the Spartans in their first meeting at the beginning of December, but that was by just six points. The Lobos have been led by Donovan Dent who is scoring a team-high 20.4 points per game. Nelly Junior Joseph has also been good as he is averaging a double-double with 13.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.

    The Spartans will need to find a way to slow down that duo if they want to upset the Lobos for a second time this season. The Spartans sputtered down the stretch of the regular season as they lost six of their last eight games to finish just 14-18 overall and 7-13 in the Mountain West.

    They didn’t it let it affect them on Wednesday, though, as they knocked off Wyoming 66-61 in their first game of the confernece tournament. Donavan Yap led the team with 19 points, a game after scoring 30 points. Yap is now averaging 10.2 points per game, which is fourth best on the team.

    Josh Uduje leads the way at 16.5 points per game, while Will McClendon and Latrell Davis are also averaging in double figures at 12.0 and 11.2 points per game respectively.
