New Hampshire and Massachusetts will kick of the 2024 basketball season on Monday night in Amherst.
On Monday night, UMass will host New Hampshire at the Mullins Center to kick off the 2024 campaign with a non-conference matchup. Last year, the Wildcats finished the season in fourth place in the America East Conference with an overall record of 16-15 and a conference record of 7-9. The team made it into postseason play and took on fifth-seeded Binghamton in the first round, winning 77-64 before playing top-seeded Vermont in the second round. Despite strong play from the Wildcats, the team ultimately fell in a 66-59 defeat, ending their season in Vermont. The team graduated three last season, but welcomed five freshmen to the roster with the hopes of finishing higher in the conference standings this year.

The Minutemen also finished in fourth place last season with strong play in the Atlantic 10 conference. The team had an overall record of 20-11 and a conference record of 11-7 in A-10 play. The team traveled to Brookyln for the Atlantic 10 tournament, but fell in the first round to fifth-seeded VCU by a score of 73-59. Rahsool Diggins led the team with 21 points in the loss and the team will look for his leadership again this year in his senior season.
New Hampshire and UMass have only met once in their program histories and it dates all the way back to the 2018-2019 season. The Minutemen won handily in a 104-75 victory at home and will look to repeat that performance on Monday despite having a new roster of players to take on the Wildcats.
