Defending series champion Max Verstappen still leads the driver standings, holding a nine-point lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing teammate, Pérez, is now third in the standings, 15 points behind.
The Baku City Circuit is a 3.73-mile street circuit and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes 51 trips around it. The course features areas that are wide open as well as tight, twisty stretches. Teams must choose between downforce for the tight turns or less drag for the long main straight along the shoreline.
There has not been a repeat winner in Azerbaijan. The race wasn’t held in 2020 due to the pandemic. Before that, Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas drove to the checkered flag.
