Some of the most memorable moments in Saturday Night Live come from the segment “Weekend Update” where cast members satire the news and make light of the real world. In recent years it has been a treasure trove of iconic jokes from Colin Jost and Michael Che, the current hosts of the segment.
From “Weekend Update” to cold opens, traditional sketches to celebrity monologues, there are countless iconic moments on Saturday Night Live over the years, specifically about politics, especially in an election year.
It all started with Chevy Chase playing Gerald Ford and Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter in the show’s first few seasons. That evolved to Will Ferrall taking on George W. Bush, Tiny Fay’s iconic Sarah Palin impression, Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon as Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton all the way to the current election where Maya Rudolph has played a pitch perfect Harris.
