    How to Watch Matlock: Stream Series Premiere Live, TV Channel

    Kathy Bates brings a whole new spin to the lawyer in the white suit when with the series premiere of Matlock on CBS on Sunday.

    For nine seasons and 181 episodes, Andy Griffith played the most famous fictional criminal defense attorney on television. Now, for the first time in nearly 30 years Matlock is back. This time the lawyer will be played by Academy Award winner Kathy Bates in CBS’ reboot of the famous series. This episode is a “sneak peek” at the series before it premieres in its normal time slot on Oct. 17. It’s the beginning of the end for Bates’ six-plus decade acting career. Bates announced after being cast in the role of Madeline Matlock, a gender-swap reboot of the original series, that this will be her final role before retiring from acting.

    Her career has spanned over six decades with iconic roles in movies such as Misery, Titanic, The Waterboy and television roles in The Office, Harry’s Law and multiple seasons of the anthology series American Horror Story.

    The rest of the main cast features Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy and Leah Lewis as Sarah with Andrea Londo as Simone in a recurring role. Ritter is the son of Hollywood icon John Ritter and is known primarily for his voice work in Frozen II and on TV as Dipper Pines in Gravity Falls.

    Matlock’s series premiere is simply titled “Pilot” with Kat Coiro directing and Jennie Snyder Urman writing. The next episode on Oct. 17 is titled “Rome in a Day,” featuring the same writing and directing duo. Tune in all season to see Bates’ last role and the reboot of an iconic series in Matlock.
