Oxygen presents a new true-crime story on Sunday night with a special on the disappearance of Alissa Turney.
The home of true-crime shows will premiere an all-new special on Sunday night with Family Secrets: The Disappearance of Alissa Turney at 8 p.m. ET on Oxygen. In 2001, Alissa Turney, then 17, disappeared and was never found. Her stepfather, Michael Turney, was charged with her murder, but was later acquitted. On Sunday night, the special will focus on Alissa’s sister, Sarah, as she continues to try and uncover the truth of what happened. Sarah is the host of the true crime podcast “Voices for Justice” and has been trying to solve her sister’s disappearance for the last 23 years. In this special, she will work through a trove of home videos and re-examine the childhood she and her sister lived. In the process, she uncovers the years of manipulation her father put her through and tries to get past the trauma he caused.

Directors Ricki Stern and Jesse Sweet’s aim was to help Sarah find out the truth of her childhood through self-discovery. Throughout the process, Sarah is able to recognize that not only were she and her sister manipulated by their stepfather, but other members of the family, and also friends, were manipulated, as well.
Sarah’s strength and determination is to be admired as she confronts her father about Alissa’s disappearance once again, using her tenacity to show that she will never give up on finding out the truth.
