National Geographic heads to the Amazon in South America to explore as many ecosystems in this new documentary. Expedition Amazon sees a crew of explorers travel the region from forests to dolphin-filled waters. This documentary speaks to the urgent and big-picture challenges in the Amazon that need to be addressed. Roughly 70% of the world’s freshwater comes from glaciers and icecaps, while 30% come from the rest of the planet. The largest source of freshwater comes from the Amazon in Brazil. The Amazon needs to be protected to conserve this crucial freshwater source. The documentary also covers the Nevado Ausangate, river flow, Andean Bears, river guardians, mangroves and flooded rivers. Those topics and several more will be covered in this documentary that premieres Thursday on National Geographic.
