If you’re into history, Nat Geo has got your back Thursday night with the premiere of new episodes of Defending Europe. The show explores more than 2000 years of European history and how these people defended their homeland. Nat Geo will bring you into their world of what weapons, structures and strategies these Europeans used to defend their countries. The biggest consequence of these actions is getting to see how countries and borders were formed in the territories we know today. From before the Dark Ages, to the present day, Europe has been embattled in conflict. There are very few places that would be an exception to that and these battles have become incredibly influential in building the power structures we know today. Of course, this constant infighting has led to a European Union that hopefully won’t need much of these defense tactics going forward.

The series debuts with the story of Finland during World War II during the nuclear age. One of the best parts about this series is that you can make a whole night out of it. There will be six new half-hour episodes airing tonight. The story of how Britain defended itself for nearly a millennium will air after Finland. Then the stories of Poland, the Netherlands use of water for defense and ingenious fortress designs used by France will be the subsequent episodes. The night will conclude with Spain’s fortification use and a scaling overview of the conflicts of that nation rich with history. Tonight will be a thrilling backstory around a historic continent across thousands of years.
