New Zealand battles Australia on Tuesday in its first group match of the T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Australia begins its quest for a fourth straight T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup championship when it plays New Zealand on Tuesday. The Aussies have dominated this tournament as they have championships in six of the eight world cups. They failed to make the final in the inaugural tournament in 2009, but have made every final since. They won three in a row in 2010, 2012 and 2014, but failed to win a fourth in a row when they fell to the West Indies in 2016. This year they will look to do what they failed to do in 2016 and get that fourth straight win. Last year they beat South Africa in the finals by 19 runs. In 2020 they beat India by 85 runs and in 2018 they knocked off England by eight wickets. Tuesday they will start their run against a New Zealand team that they beat in the finals back in 2010.

The loss to the Aussies in the finals in 2010 was their second straight runner-up finish as they fell to England by six wickets in the first tournament in 2009.
Those two second place finishes are their best showing in the World Cup and they haven’t been back to the finals since.
The White Ferns have played 36 total matches in their time in the World Cup and they have collected a 24-12 combined record.
They went 2-2 in the last three T20 World Cups and have failed to make it out of the group stage in any of those years. They are hoping they can turn things around, but it won’t be easy on Tuesday against their rivals.
