Monterrey and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will square-off Tuesday night in leg two of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The round of 16 continues in CONCACAF Champions Cup play on Wednesday night as Monterrey and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC meet for the second time at Estadio Corona in Mexico. The teams are all tied up after playing to a 1-1 draw last week in the first leg of the round of 16. Roberto de la Rosa opened the scoring for Monterrey in the 25th minute after receiving service from Érick Aguirre to take a 1-0 lead. The lead held until late in the game when Ryan Gauld played a ball into Belal Halbouni, who was able to put the equalizer in. Vancouver dominated the game, mustering 21 shots to Monterrey’s seven, but the Liga MX team was able to stay in it and keep the hope of advancing alive.

Monterrey is currently in ninth place in the Liga MX standings with a record of 4-4-3 for a total of 16 points. Over the weekend, the team played fifth-place Cruz Azul to a 1-1 draw. The team’s lone goal was scored by Sergio Ramos just 12 minutes into the game, but the team conceded the equalizer nine minutes later. If Monterrey can continue to score first and deny Vancouver any offensive opportunities, there is a real shot at the knockout stage.

Vancouver has got off to a strong start in MLS play and is sitting in a tie for first place with a record of 3-0-0 so far. On Saturday, the Whitecaps played CF Montreal, winning in a 2-0 victory. Mathías Laborda scored an unassisted first half goal to put Vancouver up 1-0 and Tate Johnson added to that lead early in the second half. Yohei Takaoka saw 10 shots, but was able to keep the net clear for his first clean sheet of the season.

Tune in Wednesday night to see which of the two teams is able to make it through to the next round of play in CONCACAF’s Liga de Campeones.
