Two-time defending national champion UConn opens play at the Maui Invitational when it faces Memphis on Monday.
No. 2 UConn (4-0) returns to action for the first time in nearly a week when it faces Memphis (4-0) in the opening round of the Maui Invitational back at the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawaii, on Monday. The Huskies are the two-time defending national champions and have played in four straight NCAA tournaments under coach Dan Hurley, who is 145-58 in his seventh season with the program. The Tigers seek a return to March Madness after going in both 2022 and 2023, before skipping the postseason after a 22-10 mark last season. Coach Penny Hardaway is 137-62 in his seventh year at the helm.

Memphis made a stop on its way to Hawaii, coming back in the second half to beat San Francisco at the Chase Centeron Thursday. PJ Haggerty’s three-pointer with 2:47 remaining gave the Tigers the lead for good. Dain Dainja scored 18 points, while Haggerty finished with 13. Haggerty gets 22.5 points per game, with Tyrese Hunter scoring 13.3 points a night and Dainja averaging 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.
UConn last played on Tuesday, rolling to an 81-46 rout of visiting East Texas A&M at Gampel Pavilion. Solo Ball led the offense with 12 points, Alex Karaban and Liam McNeeley each added 11 and Tarris Reed Jr. snared 10 rebounds and blocked three shots. Karaban nets 16.3 points per game, Ball and McNeeley each score 13.5 an outing and Reed averages 11.8 points and 9.8 rebounds.
The all-time series between the schools is tied 8-8, with the Huskies winning the most recent meeting at home 64-61 on Feb. 16, 2020.
