The NCAA softball tournament will kick off today with a matchup between Cleveland State and the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, Oklahoma, at the Norman Regional in Oklahoma on Friday night. Each regional is a double-elimination tournament with a chance to advance to the Super Regionals in the next round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners will enter this regional with a 49-6 record overall and a 22-5 record against Big 12 teams. They are coming off of a win in the Big 12 Tournament beating Kansas on Thursday 10-1, BYU on Friday 13-2, and Texas on Saturday 5-1. Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito have been on fire for this team this season. Jennings, the team’s shortstop, is batting .366 with a .462 on-base percentage. She has a team-high 19 home runs with 57 RBIs on 60 hits in 164 at-bats. Brito, the third baseman, is batting .414 with a .495 on-base percentage. She has 16 home runs and 55 RBIs on 67 hits in 162 at-bats. Kierston Deal has been the team’s best pitcher with a 12-1 record and a 1.62 ERA with 64 strikeouts.

The Vikings are 22-24 overall this season with a 14-10 record against teams in the Horizon League. It will be an uphill battle for them to walk away with a win tonight. They won the Horizon League to gain entry to the tournament. They beat IUPUI on Wednesday, Oakland on Friday, and Robert Morris on Saturday 7-0.
They lost to Northern Kentucky in the first game of the championship on Sunday and came back in the second game to win 6-1 and the tournament.
