Liberty looks for its 1st-ever trip to the super-regionals with a victory on Sunday in Athens over 11th-seeded Georgia
Regional host Georgia (41-17), the No. 11 seed in the NCAA softball tournament, comes into Sunday’s regional final with its back to the wall, needing two victories over Liberty (38-23) to reach the super-regionals for the second straight season. The Flames, regular-season and conference champions from Conference USA, need one win to advance to the program’s first-ever super-regional appearance. The Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Southeastern Conference at 12-12 and received an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney, its 22nd consecutive appearance. Liberty made its fourth straight NCAA tournament and the seventh in program history. Georgia owns five Women’s College World Series bids, most recently in 2021.

Brynn McManus broke open a close game with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning on Saturday as the Flames beat the Bulldogs 7-3. Brooke Roberts put them up 3-1 with a two-run homer in the second inning. Elena Escobar pitched four scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Rachel Roupe slashes .367/.511/.781 with team-highs of 17 home runs and 42 RBI.
Lilli Backes fired a one-hitter later Saturday as Georgia bounced back to eliminate Charlotte with a 5-0 victory. It got two runs in the second inning and put the game away with a three-run sixth, sparked by Sara Mosley’s solo home run. Dallis Goodnight hits .357/.441/.452, Jayda Kearney and Mosley share the team lead with 19 homers and Mosley tops the squad with 65 RBI.
Kaylan Yoder (11-9) leads Liberty with 137.2 innings pitched, putting up a 2.85 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 137 strikeouts. Backes (16-6) now possesses a 2.48 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 163.2 innings of work for the Bulldogs.
