Maryland will look to stay perfect in Big Ten play on Tuesday with a win over Penn State.
Ludwig Field will play host to home side No. 19 Maryland and visiting Penn State on Tuesday evening as the teams meet in a Big Ten battle. The Nittany Lions will look to move back to .500 in conference play with an upset over the Terps. Penn State is currently 4-5 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play. The team suffered a tough 2-1 loss to No. 22 Michigan in the Big Ten opener and fell against No. 12 Ohio State in a disastrous 5-0 loss. Since then, the Nittany Lions have won two in a row with the most recent being a 2-1 win over St. John’s on the road. The Red Storm struck first with a goal in the 11th minute of play, but Penn State battled back and used a pair of second half goals to win the game. Back-to-back goals from Caden Grabfelder and Malick Daouda were enough to get the job done while Fredrick Grundin finished the game with three saves in net.

The Terps have been on a roll recently and come into Tuesday’s matchup with an overall record of 5-1-3 and a perfect 3-0 record in Big Ten play. On Friday night, the team traveled to Illinois to take on Northwestern, beating the Wildcats 2-1 to win its third straight game. Leon Koehl opened the scoring just 12 minutes into play to give the Terps a 1-0 lead before Colin Griffith netted his third goal of the season, converting a penalty kick to extend the lead to two in the 17th minute. Laurin Mack made one save in net to help his team add another three points to its Big Ten tally. The win helped the Terps to earn their best start in Big Ten play since they joined in 2012.
The last time these two teams met was during conference play last season and Penn State earned a 1-0 win to improve to 25-22-6 all-time against Maryland.
