The Zips have been hot over the last three weeks and bring a six game win streak into Saturday’s Big East contest. The strong play has led the team to a 4-0 start in conference play for a spot at the top of the Midwest Division. Most recently, Akron hosted Villanova and played a tightly contested match that resulted in a 3-2 victory to improve to 7-3-3 overall. Redshirt senior Emil Jaaskelainen was celebrated in more ways than one as the team saluted its seniors before the game and then congratulated him on a hat trick in the victory. Mitch Budler got the nod in goal for the Zips and made one save in net to preserve the team’s lead to add another three points to its tally at the conclusion of the game.
When Akron and DePaul met last season, the Zips made quick work of the Blue Demons, winning handily in a 3-0 victory.
