On Sunday afternoon, No. 16 Cornell will look to pull off the upset against No. 12 Penn as the teams meet at Berman Field in New York. The Bears are currently in second place in the Ivy League standings with a conference record of 2-1 and an overall record of 9-1-2. The team has now won four games straight with the most recent being a 4-1 win over Colgate in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. Alex Harris scored twice, including the game winner, while Aidan Martin and Sam Latona also put the ball in the net in the win. Cornell managed to put up an incredible 25 shots with 17 on frame. The Bears’ defense held strong at the back so Ryan Friedberg only saw three shots the whole game, saving two to help keep the team’s win streak alive.

The Quakers have been perfect in conference play with a 3-0 record and have shown their strength outside of the Ivy League with an overall record of 9-2-1. Penn opened the season with a win over No. 3 Pitt and has also beaten No. 21 Hofstra. Sunday will mark the team’s third-ranked game of the year. The team will look to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Monmouth on Tuesday. The Hawks came to play, outshooting the Quakers 10-8 and holding them to just one shot on frame. Penn’s defense did deny quality opportunities, however, and only two of Monmouth’s shots ended up on net. Phillip Falcon III got his hands on one of those shots, but the goal that snuck by him in the 74th minute was enough to suffer the team’s second loss of the season.
Penn and Cornell played once last year and the game was tightly contested. The scales tipped in Penn’s favor, however, and the Quakers walked away with a 1-0 victory. The lone goal was scored by current senior Stas Korzeniowski.
