Minnesota will travel to Bemidji State on Saturday to close out a two-game non-conference series.
On Saturday night, No. 3 Minnesota will travel to take on Bemidji State at Sanford Center in the teams’ second game of their non-conference series. The Beavers come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 4-6-0 and a conference record of 3-3-0 so far for a spot in sixth place in the CCHA standings. On Thursday night, the teams played the first of its two games against the Golden Gophers, falling in a tough 5-3 loss.
The Golden Gophers scored three first period goals to the Beavers’ one which came from Eric Martin on a power play to take a 3-1 lead into the second period. Bemidji State brought it within one with a goal from Reilly Funk, but the Gophers answered again to make it a 4-2 game at the end of the second. Kirklan Irey scored once more for the Beavers to cut the deficit to one, but ultimately lost the game on the road.

The Golden Gophers have been hot since the first puck drop this season and come into Saturday’s game with a nine game win streak to bring their overall record to 10-1 and their conference record to 4-0-1 for a spot at the top of the Big Ten standings.
In Thursday night’s game, the team showed strength with three first period goals from the sticks of Brodie Ziemer, Brody Lamb and Oliver Moore. Lamb was able to capitalize on a power play and scored again with just over a minute to play on an empty net. The other goal came from John Mittelstadt. Nathan Airey played the full game between the pipes for the Golden Gophers and made 19 saves. Minnesota challenged Mattias Sholl in net for the Beavers, putting a total of 34 shots on him.
