Miami (OH) and St. Cloud State begin conference play against each other on Friday night in the first of two games this weekend.
Conference play begins across the NCHC this weekend. That includes at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, where St. Cloud State (6-3-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) hosts Miami (Ohio) (3-5-2, 0-0-0 NCHC) for two games starting on Friday night. St. Cloud State comes in having been picked fourth in the preseason poll (after finishing in third last year), while Miami was picked to finish ninth (eighth last year). St. Cloud State was at home last weekend, and got swept by then-No. 2 Boston College in 4-1 and 2-1 games. Before that though the Huskies were rolling, winning six of their first seven contests.
Sophomore goalie Isak Posch has gotten off to a great start for the Huskies this year. He’s started all nine games, and has a 1.79 goals against average and a 93.7% save percentage.
On the other side, Miami had a pair of close games last week at home against RPI. However the RedHawks dropped both, losing 3-2 in overtime and 2-1 in regulation. Prior to that they split a weekend set against Lindenwood.
The RedHawks have two near point-per-game players this year. Senior Matt Choupani and graduate student Colby Ambrosio both have nine pointsi n 10 games. Choupani has a team-high four goals so far this season.
