Arizona men and Northwestern women take the first round lead on the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland on Tuesday.
The Arizona men’s team recorded the only sub-par score of the day on Monday and took the first round lead at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate tournament played on the Old Course at historic St. Andrews, Scotland. Meanwhile, the Northwestern women turned the same trick and take a six-shot lead into Tuesday’s second round. Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik and Zach Pollo share the individual lead on the men’s side at three-under-par. Ashley Yun of Northwestern is one shot clear of Arizona’s Charlotte Back after a three-under-par 69.

Arizona is four shots up on Northwestern after Arizona shot a three-under-par team score. St. Andrews, the local team, finished the first round 18-over-par and Howard came in at 23-over. Individually, Archie Finnie and Niall Shiels-Donegan of Northwestern were one-under-par, as was Arizona’s Tiger Christensen. Mathis Perroni was one-over for Howard while Ethan Mangum and Judd Sundelson carded one-over 71s for St. Andrews.
Northwestern’s one-under-par puts it ahead of Arizona’s five-over through one round of team play. St. Andrews came in at 18-over and Howard at 35-over par. Yun and Back were the only players to break par, with Northwestern’s Lauryn Nguyen and Elise Lee at even-par, along with Arizona’s Maria Cabanillas. Ellie Monk and Judy Miwoo Joo were one-over for St. Andrews and Emily Mayne finished four-over for Howard.
The event continues on Tuesday with the second round of stroke play and winds up on Wednesday with medal match play. This is the second year for the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, with Vanderbilt and UNC taking the men’s and women’s titles, respectively.
