Wake Forest will look to pull off the ultimate upset on Friday night with a win over No. 2 North Carolina in ACC play.
On Friday night, Wake Forest will travel the short distance to Chapel Hill to take on No. 2 UNC in an ACC matchup. The Demon Deacons are just on the brink of breaking into the top 25 and would be catapulted into the standings with a win over the Tar Heels. The team is currently 5-7 overall with an ACC record of 1-3 for a spot in fifth place in the conference standings. Most recently, the team hosted Louisville, pushing the game to overtime in which the Demon Deacons earned a big 3-2 win. Lena Keller got things going for Wake Forest, scoring in the first quarter off of a penalty corner. Just 30 seconds into the second quarter, however, the Cardinals got on the board, also on a penalty corner. Ana Franco made it a 2-1 game with an assist from Faye Janse in the 18th minute of play. Louisville tied things back up right before halftime, though. In the second overtime period, Janse took things into her own hands, scoring the unassisted game winner to help her team earn a much-needed three points.

The Tar Heels are not going to go down easy on Friday, however, as the team is still undefeated this season with a perfect overall record of 10-0 and an ACC record of 4-0. On Sunday, the team made quick work of Appalachian State in a non-conference matchup, winning 5-0 on the road. Charly Bruder led the Tar Heels offensively, finishing the game with a hat trick. Ryleigh Heck and Molly Catchpole accounted for the other two goals. Pleun Lammers supported offensive play with three assists while Heck added two to the stat sheet. Abigail Taylor played the full game in the cage for UNC and made one save in the shutout, her sixth of the season.
Friday’s game will be the 85th meeting between the two teams with UNC holding a 60-21-3 advantage.
