Top-seeded Northwestern takes on Rutgers in the first semifinal of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament on Friday
The Northwestern Wildcats battle the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. The Wildcats come into Friday on a perfect 18-0 on the season and as the top seed in the Big Ten after sweeping through the conference. The Wildcats had a couple of close matches including a 2-1 overtime win over Michigan, but they have found ways to win every game and once again are a favorite to win not only the Big Ten championship, but also the National Title. First up is a Rutgers team that they beat 4-0 back on October 4th. In that match the first half was slow, but they picked it up in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats got 11 shots off in the final frame and scored three goals in that win. Friday they will look to do the same thing on Friday and earn a berth in the Big Ten championship match on Sunday.

The Scarlet Knights, though, are looking to pick up the huge upset and send Northwestern home with its first loss of the season.
The Scarlet Knights got to the semifinals by beating Ohio State 2-1 on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
Kara Heck got the first goal of the match in the second quarter and then she scored again in the third quarter to give the Scarlet Knights a two-goal lead. The Buckeyes would score 40 seconds later, but the Scarlet Knights would hold off the rally to get the win and another shot at the top-ranked Wildcats.
