Iowa and Rutgers both go for their first Big Ten win of the season when the teams meet on Friday afternoon
The Iowa Hawkeyes battle the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday afternoon in a Big Ten field hockey battle. The Hawkeyes come to town looking to bounce back from a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Northwestern last Friday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped them to 4-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes other loss came at the hands of No. 2 North Carolina at the beginning of September. They are now 1-2 against ranked opponents this year as they did beat No. 18 Wake Forest in a shootout to start the season. The Hawkeyes have been traditionally one of the best field hockey teams in the country, but they are still trying to prove they can compete with the top teams this season. Friday they take on a Rutgers that isn’t ranked but capable of pulling off the upset.

The Scarlet Knights are also looking to get their first conference win of the season as they fell to No. 7 Maryland last Friday 3-2. They then lost a second straight game when they fell to No. 18 Princeton 3-2 on Sunday.
They have now lost four of their last five games after starting the season with two straight wins. They have yet to win a game against a ranked team this year as they have lost all three contests. They have been competitive, though, as all three were decided by just a single goal.
