Predicting Loses For Every Undefeated Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Team

We have had so many upsets in college basketball through the beginning of the season. Top 5 teams squaring off, unranked teams beating Top 10 teams, and so on. So much so that the No. 1 team in the nation is no longer an undefeated one. Arizona dropped three spots after losing its first game of the season to a Top 10 opponent. Only three current Top 25 teams are without a loss. Here is a look at when those teams could get take down for the first time.

    No. 25 – Ole Miss

Ole Miss just broke into the Top 25 this week because of its undefeated record. The Rebels took down their hardest opponent of the season beating Memphis, who has already beaten several Top 25 ranked teams, by three points. They followed it up with three more wins in December, leading to a 10-0 record overall. They are fresh off of a road win against Cal in San Antonio and a win against Troy at home. Ole Miss will close out the month of December with games against Southern Mississippi and Bryant. They open up January with their toughest game of the schedule and first SEC opponent in No. 8 ranked Tennessee. However, if they aren’t careful, I think Bryant could get the better of them seeing as Bryant has already beaten Florida Atlantic.

    No. 20 – James Madison

James Madison has slowly risen in the rankings after knocking off the former No. 4 team in the country Michigan State in its first game of the season. It took just one week after that game for the team to break into the Top 25 rankings with a No. 24 rank. The Dukes then ended November with wins against Fresno State in the Cancun Challenge championship game and Buffalo. They beat Hampton and Coppin State in their most recent games. They end the month with a road game against Morgan State and a home game against Texas State. They don’t play a current Top 25 opponent all season. They play Appalachian State in the middle of January, and I think that could be the one that knocks JMU off.

    No. 3 – Houston

The highest ranked team on this list is also probably the team that has played the easiest schedule to date. Granted, it isn’t their fault and they are a talented team, but the Houston Cougars are still looking for their true first test of the season. To date, their biggest win came against Texas A&M at home. They have also beaten Utah, Dayton, and Xavier in the Big East-Big 12 Battle in their 10 wins as well. They finish out December with games against Texas State and Penn, both at home. Their first ranked opponent of the season comes on Jan. 23 against BYU. Unless an unlikely upset happens before then, I think that has potential to be their first loss, though the Feb. 3 game against Kanas is when I think it will happen.
