No. 7 seed UNLV will head to South Orange, New Jersey to take on No. 1 seed Seton Hall in the quarterfinals of the NIT on Wednesday. The Rebels lost 12 games this season, including a 74-71 loss to San Diego State in the Mountain West Championship quarterfinal that lost their chance at an NCAA Tournament berth. Heading into this tournament, they matched up against No. 2 seed Princeton in the first round and took them down by seven points, 84-77. Rob Whaley Jr. led the team with 21 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting from the field while Keylan Boone had the team’s only double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. In the second round, UNLV pulled off another upset against Boston College from the ACC. They won that game by nine points. Dedan Thomas Jr. finished with 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists in that win.

The Pirates had a great season in the Big East, but still lost 12 games. They were kicked out of their conference tournament by St. John’s in the quarterfinals. They beat Saint Jospeh’s in the first round of this tournament in overtime by just three points. Al-Amir Dawes led the team with 26 points in that win.
Heading into the second round, they took on and beat North Texas 72-58. Dre Davis led the team in that second win with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Kadary Richmond had 11 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists in the team’s only double-double.
