It’s a race to the finish for the top spot in the Pac-12 this year and No. 5 Stanford is right in the middle of things heading into the final weekend of regular season play. The Cardinal are in second place right now but just one game out with a chance to make a move when they take on USC in a three-game series this weekend. That series begins Thursday night in Stanford.

Stanford has won its last six conference games, with sweeps of California and Utah. That has the Cardinal record at 18-9 in the conference, one game behind first-place Oregon State and one game up on third-place UCLA. The Beavers and Bruins are facing each other this weekend.
Overall, Stanford has won nine games in a row heading into this weekend. In that time, the Cardinal are averaging 8.1 runs per game on offense and holding their opponents to just 3.67 runs per game.
A lot of Stanford’s recent success – especially at the plate – can be credited to the offensive duo of Brett Barrera and Carter Graham. Barrea, a junior infielder, has multiple hits in five of the last six games and at least one hit in 13 of the last 14. He’s hitting .364 this season, which leads the team and is tied for fourth in the Pac-12.
Graham, a sophomore infielder, is more of a power option. He leads the conference with 17 home runs and is second with 59 RBIs.
On the mound, senior righty Alex Williams has been the series opener and thrived in that role. In 13 starts he’s 7-1 and has a Pac-12-best 1.75 ERA. Last time out against Utah, he threw eight innings while allowing just three hits and no runs.
