Both teams come in off losses, with the Mountaineers dropping their last two games to fall into a second place tie in the Big 12 Conference at 15-9, three games behind Oklahoma. Penn State stands 7-11 in the Big Ten Conference, tied with Minnesota for 10th place in the 13-team group. The Nittany Lions last played in the NCAA tournament in 2000, while West Virginia made its first NCAA tourney visit in four years last spring after winning its first Big 12 regular season title.

Penn State split a pair of non-conference games last weekend, beating visiting Georgetown on Friday before losing at Navy on Sunday. J.T. Marr tops the team with a .412/.458/.600 slash line, with Adam Cecere and Grant Norris leading the offense with 13 home runs each. Cecere also has 41 RBIs.
The Mountaineers dropped two of three last weekend at Cincinnati. Sam White’s .319/.415/.524 slash line leads the team. Reed Chumley and Kyle West have 12 homers each, with West topping the club with 38 RBIs.
West Virginia gives the ball to freshman Chase Meyer on Wednesday night for his first career start. In 10 relief appearances covering 12.2 innings Meyer has a 7.82 ERA and 1.74 WHIP with 20 strikeouts. Penn State has yet to announce a starter.
