On Friday, the Volunteers took down the Purple Aces 11-6 to grab the Game 1 victory. Hunter Ensley was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the win and was one of four Tennessee players with a home run, with Christian Moore, Blake Burke and Billy Amick also going yard. Evansville got a home run from Cal McGinnis, but it wasn’t enough for the team to get the win. Tennessee had three separate innings with three runs scored. Evansville shockingly bounced back in Game 2 10-8 to force the winner-take-all Game 3 out of the Knoxville Super Regional.

This is particularly surprising considering Tennessee, the national No. 1 seed, swept its way to the win in the regional round last weekend. The team beat Northern Kentucky 9-3 then Indiana 12-6 before taking the regional title with a 12-3 win over Southern Miss. It was a dominant effort in Knoxville for the Volunteers, who now host another weekend of baseball action.

Evansville beat East Carolina 4-1 and VCU 17-11 last weekend before falling 19-6 to East Carolina in the rematch. That set up a must-win Game 3, with the Purple Aces taking down the Pirates 6-5 to advance to the Super Regional round.
