The Tiger-Cats do have bragging rights, however, having won the first meeting between the clubs this season, taking a 27-24 decision at home on July 20 for their first win of the season. Toronto, which finished a CFL-best 16-2 last season before losing in the East Division Final in the playoffs, has won three of four since the loss at Hamilton.
The Argos won on the final play of the game on Aug. 22, topping the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders 20-19 with a rouge when the ‘Riders couldn’t get the ball out of the end zone after Lirim Hajrullahi’s 40-yard field-goal attempt was wide but deep enough for Toronto to pin the ball in the end zone.
On Aug. 23, Hamilton dropped a 26-23 decision on the road to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, surrendering the go-ahead touchdown with 21 seconds remaining. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was just 14-for-28 for 220 yards. He leads the CFL with 3,036 yards and 19 touchdown passes while Shemar Bridges tops the leaguie with 66 receptions and 92 targets.
Second-year quarterback Cameron Dukes has completed 72.1% of his 190 attempts for 1,398 yards and seven touchdowns with six interceptions for the Argonauts while Ka’Deem Carey is third in the CFL with 646 rushing yards and has scored five touchdowns. Defensively, Jake Ceresna is one of eight players sharing the CFL lead with five sacks.
Toronto ranks fourth in the league, allowing 340.6 yards per game and 23.4 offensive points per contest. Hamilton surrenders 30.6 offensive points per game — last in the CFL — and is fifth, surrendering 358.1 yards per game.
