York United looks to inch closer to the top of the table as Valour visits on a three-match winless streak
Entering the weekend six points shy of the top of the table in the Canadian Premier League standings, York United welcome Valour FC into York Lions Stadium tonight in search of a season series win. Both teams have collected wins in this series on its home field with York United winning 3-1 thanks to a trio of second-half goals to secure the win back in mid-May including a goal from attacker Brian Wright, who ranks second in the CPL with nine goals this season. Valour comes into this match winless in its last three matches having earned back-to-back draws against playoff positioned squads Cavalry FC and top of the table Atlético Ottawa.

York United has been solid at home this season as six of its 10 wins have come on home turf including a 4-1 thrashing of Atlético Ottawa in late July as four different goal scorers including veteran Mo Babouli depositing one of his five goals this season. Babouli has 16 career goals for York since joining the club in 2022 and sits just two goals shy of tying Osaze De Rosario for the most goals in team history.
Valour have struggled to find the back of the net this season scoring just 26 goals in 22 matches and rank last in the CPL with a minus-10 goal differential. But over the last two months, the offense has picked up scoring at least one goal in eight of the last nine matches, with the long shutout coming against York United.
Rest will be a factor in this match as York has spent a week at home since playing at Vancouver last Friday while Valour is on the road playing for the second time in five days after Monday’s draw.
Valour FC leads the all-time series 9-8-2 and with a win today would equal the season series at 2-2.
