Defending champion UCLA takes on Stanford in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championship in beach volleyball on Thursday.
The path to another Pac-12 Championship in beach volleyball for second-seeded UCLA continues in the quarterfinals against third-seeded Stanford on Thursday. The Bruins took care of business in the first round against seventh-seeded Arizona to win its 30th match this season. The Bruins won the first three sets against the Wildcats, then saw the fourth and fifth matches go unfinished with the Bruins in the lead. That level of dominance by the Bruins is why the program has won three of the seven Pac-12 Championships in the history of the beach volleyball tournament.

In that first round match the Bruins did not lose a game in the first three sets that were finished and won or were ahead in the other three games in the final two sets. Overall the Bruins won four sets by eight or more points, three more by three or more points and had slight leads in the two unfinished sets.
Stanford and UCLA traded wins in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic early in the season with the Cardinal winning the first match (3-2) and then the Bruins winning the next day (3-2) to even up the season series. The Cardinal closed out the regular season series with another win over the Bruins (3-2) to set up a mammoth match in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championship today.
